What’s new in RetainerMeter Desktop

Product corrections and improvements for the local-first Windows and Linux edition.

Version 1.0.2

This maintenance release strengthens invoice and backup integrity, adds day-based retainer terms and a lean Retainer Forecast, and makes everyday editing more predictable.

Stronger invoice-history safeguards

  • Rows captured by an exported monthly or supplemental invoice can no longer be edited or removed.
  • Later work stays available through a separate post-invoice row and supplemental invoice.
  • Renaming a current client no longer changes the prepared-for name or work lines stored in an issued invoice.
  • Deleting a no-work client removes only a completely unissued draft. Locked, exported, sent, paid, or void history remains preserved.

Day-based retainers and Forecast

  • Day-based retainers store agreed monthly days, configurable hours per day, the fixed fee, and the additional-hours rate while time entry remains hourly.
  • Invoices and Portable Backup preserve the original day-based terms.
  • Current-month Burn cards can project month-end hours, likely additional invoice value, or flat-retainer effective-rate erosion after the early-month guard period.

Safer backups and clearer editing

  • Portable Backup flushes pending weekly edits before export and opens the newest restored week containing recorded hours.
  • Client and Retainer Settings dialogs provide Apply to save and stay open plus Save and Close to save and exit.
  • Ordinarily dismissible dialogs support Escape, and first-run setup can begin with a clearly labelled example workspace.

Version 1.0.1

This free maintenance release improves billing-month accuracy, first-client setup, invoice-export behavior, and future update delivery.

Billing starts in the right month

  • Each client now has a clear billing-start month during setup and client editing.
  • Months before that start no longer show burn cards or create untouched invoice drafts.
  • Future months remain invoice-free until they begin and no longer consume invoice numbers merely because they were viewed.
  • Existing issued, exported, sent, paid, locked, or void invoice history remains preserved.

Clearer first-client setup

The setup assistant now captures the client’s billing model and the corresponding hourly rate, monthly retainer fee, included-hours allowance, and additional-hours rate where applicable.

More accurate burn tracking

Burn cards consistently use the billing month associated with the selected week. Past months show their final position, the current month remains live, and future months stay inactive until they begin.

Signed in-app updates

RetainerMeter can now download eligible updates with visible progress, verify their production signature, and present a Restart action to finish installation on Windows or Linux.

Export and payment corrections

  • Default Linux exports fall back safely to the user’s Downloads folder when desktop-directory metadata is unavailable.
  • Payment notices now distinguish between an updated payment and a payment cleared to zero.

One manual update from version 1.0.0

Version 1.0.0 predates the managed installer. Existing 1.0.0 users can download and install the current version manually once. Their local RetainerMeter data is preserved. Managed in-app updates apply from version 1.0.1 onward.
